Part 3 · Operate

Handwritten notes

A few lines for a card, drafted from the dated evidence, for the accounts worth a stamp.

01What it is

From an account’s dossier, a draft of a short note you copy out by hand and post. It names one or two things that happened at the company, each traced to a dated event, and asks for nothing.

02Why it exists

A handwritten note is what a sales team sends for its biggest deals and what a founder alone never gets round to. The hard part is not the stamp. It is having something specific to say, and the dossier already holds that: the dated changes at the company.

The note is held to the same checks as any outreach draft. Every fact traces to an event, and the draft has to pass the kill list, because a card that reads like a template proves the opposite of what a card is for. Nothing is stored, printed or sent. You write it out and sign it.

03How to use it

  1. 01Open an account from Today or Audience and choose Draft a handwritten note.
  2. 02Read the evidence it mentions, listed under the note with its date and a link.
  3. 03Copy the words, write them out by hand, and sign the card yourself.
  4. 04Draft another if the first does not sound like you. Each one is checked again.

04What good looks like

You give it
An account with a funding round dated 18 September and a named contact, Maya.
You get
A note that opens with her name, mentions the round and its date, stays inside the word limit and asks for nothing.
Why
There is a dated event to mention and a person to address, so the card has something true and specific in it.

05What weak looks like, and what it costs

You give it
An account where nothing dated has happened inside the evidence window.
You get
No note, and a line saying there is nothing true to write about yet.
Why
A note with no specific fact in it is a greeting card, so it refuses rather than padding.
