Part 4 · Play
Working a buying window
A read fired. What to do in the next 48 hours.
Who this is for
A window has opened on a watched company and you want to act on it well.
Before you start
- A read on the Today screen with a dated spine.
How long
25 minutes per window, within 48 hours of it opening.
The sequence
- 01
Read the timeline before anything else. Three dated nodes, and decide whether you agree with the conclusion.
/today3 minutes
You should see: You can say out loud what changed at that company and when.
- 02
Open the sources on the load-bearing nodes. If the evidence does not convince you, mark the read wrong and stop.
/today5 minutes
- 03
Open the people at that company and read their timelines. Somebody who has seen three of your posts is a different message from somebody who has not.
/conversations5 minutes
- 04
Read the draft against the evidence. Check the dated signal is one you would mention in person.
/approvals5 minutes
- 05
Edit the opening line if it is the wrong one of the three changes. The product picked the most specific; you know which one they care about.
/approvals5 minutes
- 06
Approve and send. Then record the outcome when it arrives, including silence.
/approvals, then /conversations2 minutes
You are done when
- The message references a change you could point at on a public page.
- It went to somebody whose history you checked first.
- The outcome is recorded, whatever it was.
The commonest way this fails
You approve from the draft without opening the timeline. The evidence is usually right, and the one time it is not you send a message about something that did not happen to somebody who works there.
