Part 3 · Operate

Video outreach

A short video made for one person, and the refusal that keeps it worth making.

01What it is

The system decides who is worth an hour of your time, generates a brief you can record from without researching first, and tracks the lane against its real cost in minutes.

02Why it exists

A short video referencing something real about somebody's business converts interest into a call better than almost anything else available to a founder. It also costs a real hour, which is why the decision about who gets one matters more than the recording does.

The rule the lane depends on is the refusal. If there is nothing specific to say, no video is recommended. A generic personal video is worse than no contact: it burns the prospect and the founder's hour together, and it is obviously generic from the first ten seconds, which makes it worse than a good email would have been.

The follow-up triggering on the view rather than on a timer is the other load-bearing choice. Somebody watching a video made for them is a strong buying signal, and a two-day-later timer ignores it.

03How to use it

  1. 01Set the venture template once: what a good video covers for what you sell, how long, how to open and end.
  2. 02Read the recommendations. Each carries the specific thing worth showing and the dated evidence under it.
  3. 03Read the refusals too. They say why somebody was skipped, so you do not assume they were missed.
  4. 04Record, mark it sent, and mark the view when the hosting service reports one or you see it yourself.
  5. 05Watch minutes per call. If forty minutes of recording produces one call, that is the number to decide on.

04What good looks like

You give it
A company at engaged stage, signal 0.8, with two dated changes including a replaced pricing page eight days ago.
You get
A recommendation whose angle is the pricing page change, a brief with three timed beats against the venture template, and three named claims not to make.
Why
The angle restates the newest dated fact rather than inventing one, and undated evidence is dropped before the brief is built.

05What weak looks like, and what it costs

You give it
A company with one observation that has no date on it.
You get
Refused, with the reason stated: nothing dated to build on.
Why
An undated observation cannot anchor a sentence like "three weeks ago you posted a role for this", and that sentence is the entire reason the video is not generic.
