Part 1 · Understand

Why timing decides the outcome

What a buying window is, why several signals beat one, and what evidence means here.

01What it is

A buying window is a period when a company is likely to be choosing something, inferred from public changes at that company. The product opens one when several changes land close together, and it shows you the dated sources it used.

02Why it exists

A company that raised money last week is not a buyer. A company that raised money, posted three roles on the team that would own your product, and rewrote its pricing page in the same six weeks is doing something.

One signal is noise. Funding alone gets picked up by every tool in this category, which is why a founder who mentions funding in a first line sounds like every other message that week. Several signals at once are rare enough to mean something and specific enough to write about.

The other half is evidence. Every sentence that references a company traces to a stored row with a URL and a date. The model never invents a trigger, because a message built on a change that did not happen costs more than sending nothing.

03How to use it

  1. 01Add companies you would take a meeting with. Fit first, size second.
  2. 02Wait. Evidence accumulates from real change, and a quiet watchlist in week one is the system working.
  3. 03When a read fires, open the timeline before the draft. The dated spine tells you whether you agree with the conclusion.
  4. 04Disagree out loud. Marking a read as wrong feeds allocation, and silence teaches it nothing.

04What good looks like

You give it
Funding round, four engineering roles opened on the same team, and a pricing page rewrite, all within six weeks.
You get
A window opens with three dated events on the spine and a confidence figure. The draft references the hiring pattern, which is the specific thing that changed.
Why
Three independent changes on one theme in a short period is a company building something, and the hiring is the most specific of the three.

05What weak looks like, and what it costs

You give it
One funding announcement, nothing else, four months ago.
You get
No window. The event sits in the archive and counts toward a future read.
Why
A lone event carries reduced weight and one signal never crosses the synthesis threshold. Four months is also outside the window the synthesiser looks at.
