Part 3 · Operate

A deal

Where one deal stands, what waits on you, and everything that happened to it.

01What it is

A deal page shows the stage and how it got there, the value and the next step, the drafts and tasks waiting on you, the people on the deal, how they found you, and on its other views the calls with their prep briefs and notes, and every event in order.

02Why it exists

A deal page is where you decide, so it carries the evidence beside each decision. A move shows who made it and from what. A note shows the words it was read from. How they found you shows the first touch and the last touch side by side, because when the two disagree neither alone is the truth.

Notes are read, not summarised into something new. Every item pulled out of your notes quotes what you wrote, and anything that cannot be quoted is left out and counted, so the next step on a deal is never something you did not say.

03How to use it

  1. 01Keep the next step and its date current. A deal with no next step is flagged.
  2. 02Review each draft under Drafts waiting for you. Check my edit runs your voice, your writing rules and the promise check again; Approve never sends.
  3. 03Open Calls and notes before a meeting for the prep brief, or press Write the brief now. Download it as a PDF for the call.
  4. 04After a call, paste your notes and press Confirm all to apply the next steps, the people named, the value and the suggested stage.
  5. 05With usage limits on, notes, a voice memo and a brief you ask for count against your plan's call notes and briefs.
  6. 06Open Timeline for everything that happened, newest first.
  7. 07Where venture memory is on, press Why this? under a draft or a prep brief to see what it used from What we know.
  8. 08With website analytics on, the timeline shows the buyer’s visits to your site, and a link to your site in a follow-up is tracked before you approve it.

04What good looks like

You give it
Notes say "Sarah from finance signs off. Budget is around 20k this quarter. Worried about setup time."
You get
Sarah is added as decision maker, the budget is read as 20,000, and setup time is listed as an objection, each with the words it came from.
Why
Every extracted item carries a quote that must be found in the notes; the value and the people are set only on Confirm all.

05What weak looks like, and what it costs

You give it
A follow-up draft offers "10% off if you sign by Friday", and neither the thread nor the notes mention a discount or a deadline.
You get
The draft fails its check and lists both as things to fix before it can be approved.
Why
A draft may not invent a price, a discount, a deadline or a promise the notes and the thread do not contain.
