Best outbound tool for consultants and agencies
We make InstinctGTM, and it is on this list. Most agencies should buy something else, and this guide says which. Outreach for a consultancy splits two ways: winning work for yourself, where your name and judgement are the product, and running outreach for clients, where the cost per client decides everything. Prices were read off each vendor’s own page on 3 October 2026.
The short answer
If you run outreach for many clients, pick a sending platform with unlimited users or client workspaces, because cost per client decides whether the work pays. If you build data workflows as a service, Clay is the workbench. If you are winning work for your own firm, where every message carries your name, pick a tool that waits for a reason to write and keeps each client’s context separate.
- Email for several clients on one bill: Lemlist, $69 a month with unlimited users and senders
- Volume sending across client domains: Smartlead, from $39 a month, with client workspaces in its grid
- Selling data workflows as a service: Clay, unlimited seats and an expert directory
- Winning work for your own firm, one reason at a time: InstinctGTM, each client or practice kept in its own venture
The picks at a glance
| Tool | Best for | Price | Several clients |
|---|---|---|---|
| Lemlist | Email for several clients on one bill | $69/mo Email, unlimited users | Unlimited users and senders on one plan |
| Smartlead | Volume sending across client domains | $39/mo Base, monthly | Client workspaces listed in its grid |
| Clay | Selling data workflows as a service | Free, then $167/mo | Unlimited seats and tables |
| folk | A relationship CRM with campaigns | $24/member/mo, yearly | Priced per member |
| InstinctGTM(ours) | Winning work for your own firm, one reason at a time | Free, then $149/mo | One venture per client or practice, kept apart |
Is outreach for your own consultancy different from outreach for clients?
Yes, in the ways that decide the tool. For your own firm, every message is a sample of your judgement, and a generic one costs you more than silence does. Volume is rarely the constraint; finding the right moment to write to a company you would love to work with is.
For clients, outreach is a service you deliver at a margin. The questions are how many inboxes, domains and users you can run per client, how cleanly the clients stay apart, and what it costs per client per month. Those favour sending platforms built for agencies.
What does an agency need from an outbound tool?
Separation first: one client’s list, voice and exclusions must never leak into another’s. Then a price that does not scale with every team member you add, and sending capacity that does not put one client’s domain at risk because of another’s campaign.
Reporting the client can read matters next, and white-labelling after that. Check each of these against the plan you would buy, because the grid often lists a feature on a higher tier than the price you were quoted.
Lemlist
- Best for
- Price
- $69/mo Email, unlimited users
- Several clients
Lemlist Email is $69 a month for 50,000 emails with unlimited users and email senders, per its pricing page on 3 October 2026. Every seat includes lemwarm for warm-up, and the plan lists a 650M+ contact database. For an agency, unlimited users on a flat price is the number that matters.
Multichannel, at $109 per user a month, adds LinkedIn, SMS and a dialer, priced per user rather than flat.
What it does not do: Separation between clients is yours to organise inside one account, and LinkedIn steps act on the account owner’s profile. Check how you will keep clients apart before you load the second one.
Smartlead
- Best for
- Price
- $39/mo Base, monthly
- Several clients
Smartlead Base is $39 a month on monthly billing, or $32 billed yearly, for 2,000 contacts and 6,000 sends, and Unlimited Smart is $174 a month for unlimited contacts and 150,000 sends, per its pricing page on 3 October 2026. Its plan grid has a row for client workspaces alongside a warm-up pool, API and webhooks.
For an agency sending at volume for several clients, that combination is the reason it gets shortlisted.
What it does not do: The grid lists client workspaces without making it obvious which plan carries them, and several features are add-ons priced on top. Confirm both against the plan you intend to buy.
Clay
- Best for
- Price
- Free, then $167/mo
- Several clients
Clay has a free plan with unlimited seats and tables, then $167 a month on Launch and $446 on Growth for monthly billing, per its pricing page on 3 October 2026. It enriches across 150+ data providers, sends through its own sequencer or an integration, and runs a directory of Clay experts and a job board for GTM engineers.
If your agency’s product is the data work itself, building enrichment and scoring for clients, this is where that work is done and where the clients already look for people who do it.
What it does not do: It is a workbench, not a finished process. Every client gets the workflow you build, and the cost follows rows and Actions run, so heavy clients cost more to serve.
folk
- Best for
- Price
- $24/member/mo, yearly
- Several clients
folk Standard is $24 per member a month billed yearly and includes email campaigns, a LinkedIn extension and contact enrichment; email sequences and API access start on Premium at $48, per its pricing page on 3 October 2026.
For a consultancy whose work comes through relationships more than lists, a CRM that keeps the people and the conversations in one place may matter more than any sending tool.
What it does not do: It is a CRM with campaigns rather than a sending platform, and it prices per member, so it does not get cheaper per client as you grow.
InstinctGTM
Ours- Best for
- Price
- Free, then $149/mo
- Several clients
InstinctGTM holds each business you sell for as a separate venture: what it sells, who buys, the voice, the claims it must never make, the exclusions and the channels. Ventures are isolated by default, so one client’s context never shapes another’s drafts. Inside each, it watches companies you chose for dated public change and drafts the message and the posts, and you approve every one.
One venture is on Founder at $149 a month. Growth, at $399, covers 3, and Operator, at $999, covers 10, with more sending mailboxes and white-label export.
What it does not do: It is expensive per client for an agency running many accounts at low touch: $999 a month on Operator against Lemlist Email at $69 with unlimited users. It sends only from mailboxes you connect and approve one message at a time, which is the point for your own firm and a bottleneck for a client book.
Which one should you choose?
You run email outreach for many clients and need the cost per client low.
Lemlist, because unlimited users on a flat $69 is the cheapest way to add the next client.
Your clients need volume across many domains and you want to automate around it.
Smartlead, because client workspaces, a warm-up pool and an API are in its grid, once you confirm the plan.
Your service is the data work itself.
Clay, because it is the workbench that work happens on, and clients look for experts there.
You are winning work for your own consultancy and each message carries your name.
InstinctGTM, because it waits for a dated reason to write and keeps each practice’s context separate.
What to do this week
- Decide which job you are buying for: your own pipeline or your clients’. They point to different tools, and buying one for both is how agencies end up with neither working.
- For client work, price the plan you need for your current client count and for twice that, per client per month.
- For your own pipeline, list the ten companies you would most like to work with and what would have to change at each for them to need you.
- Run one month on the cheapest plan that does the job before committing to a year.
Questions people ask
What is a good outbound tool for a small agency?
Lemlist Email is $69 a month with unlimited users, and Smartlead Base is $39 a month on monthly billing, per their pricing pages read on 3 October 2026. For an agency, the flat price with unlimited users usually decides it, provided you have a way to keep clients apart inside one account.
Can I keep clients separate in one outbound tool?
Smartlead lists client workspaces in its plan grid, so confirm which plan includes them. In InstinctGTM each client or practice is a separate venture with its own voice, exclusions and channels, isolated by default. Growth covers 3 ventures and Operator 10.
Is Clay worth it for a consultancy?
If you sell data work, yes: it has a free plan with unlimited seats, enrichment across 150+ providers, and a directory where clients look for Clay experts, per its pricing page read on 3 October 2026. If you mainly need to send email for clients, a sending platform is cheaper per client.
Agencies and consultancies buy outbound tools for two jobs that rarely share a winner. Client delivery rewards the lowest cost per client and clean separation. Winning your own work rewards judgement and timing, where one well-placed message beats a campaign. Buy for the job in front of you, and expect to need a different tool when the other one arrives.
